Clearing your Credit Report

With your credit score and your credit report having so much influence in your day to day affairs, it is imperative that you wield whatever influence you can to make sure that it is as positive as it can be. Getting your credit cleared can be a very frustrating proposition, if you don't know how to do it. If there are discrepancies though, they must be removed and it is up to you to see that it is done.

If there is negative information and it’s not a mistake, then that’s another problem entirely that can be worked on by counterbalancing it with positive information, which you can generate if you set your mind to it and stick to a solid plan. The first thing to do is examine all three credit reports, from the three major credit reporting agencies. Don't be surprised if they are all not the same and also don’t be shocked if you find a mistake or discrepancy.

If you find one, then you have to compile the documents that prove that it is a mistake and send the agency a letter stating your case and a copy of your credit report, with the mistake circled and a copy, or copies of the documents that prove your point. Don't send the original documents. They have a reasonable time frame to work in, so give it some time. The next step to repairing bad credit is to generate good credit, by doing things that will have a positive effect on your credit report.

If you have credit cards and the interest rates have gone up on them, then you may want to pay them off and replace them with new credit cards with lower interest rates. The way to keep them low, is to adhere to every term of the contract that comes with them. This means you will have to pay every bill you have on time, because most credit cards have a clause that allows them to raise the interest rate if you are late on any bill, even if it is not theirs.

Try to replace any outstanding credit you have from lesser known and less reputable lending institutions with better known more reputable institutions. The amount of interest you pay and whom you have borrowed from, can have a negative effect on your credit score. Be very skeptical of anyone who claims that they can remove legitimate negative information from your credit report. They are all pretty much a scam and you will lose precious money and time that you can use to actually have a positive impact on your credit report and score.
